Fast read. There is a good opportunity at a story but is not even a near miss owing to a sore lack of conflict or climax. No complications and nothing goes wrong for the protagonists.
Add to that, the sad incorrect statements of historical facts about Turkey, regarding the Battle of Gallipoli of WW1, and the wrong claim that it has access to nuclear weapons further sink one’s enjoyment to read.
I finished this book out of respect to see it through, and of hope that there will come up at the end a redeeming material, to no avail.
Last kicker: Factual parts about the Pope and one other subject i will not iterate here to avoid a spoiler, are literally lifted from wikipedia of same entries. This leads us to the conclusion that while the author has been evasively diligent about the facts regarding the vital and apparently hoped to be sensational elements of his story, he has not dispensed same attention when it comes to depicting peripheral elements of his story, such as WW1 or reasons for political tension between two countries involved in the endpoint of the gold story. Inattention may explain this contrast, but it still leaves one ill equipped to rule out ignorance or malicious intent of targeting.
Two stars? One for the topic and another one for the attempt at genre of historical fiction, but figured i would not read it again and would need a very compelling reason to follow this author’s future works.
