Jose-Luis Bocquet is a writer, comic book editor, and former journalist. Catel Muller is a renowned author of children's books and mature graphic novels. They jointly won the Angouleme Festival Grand Prize, France's most prestigious graphic novel award.

    A delightful and moving graphic novel that tells the story of the life of Alice Prin, who became known by her admirers as Kiki de Montparnasse and the Queen of Montparnasse. The book is meticulously researched and details her life from birth in 1901 to her rather tragic death in 1953 at age 52.

    I came to this story by way of Man Ray -- a multi-media artist whose photography I am studying -- and his relationship with Kiki, first as a model/muse and then as a lover. Many of Man Ray's nude studies, portraits, experimental works and films have Kiki as their subject.

    It is fascinating to see how Kiki's story threads its way through the Dadaist and Surrealist art movements via her involvement with so many of the leading luminaries in the art world of France in the early nineteen hundreds. It details her connections to and relationships with people such as Fujita Tsuguharu, Tristan Tzara, and many others.

    A hugely enjoyable biography, and I sincerely wish that others were presented in such a readable and fascinating way.

    Obschon der Comic eine eigentlich interessante Story verspricht, springt der Funke beim Leser/Betrachter nicht so recht über.

    Te sumerge en una época y te enamora del personaje. Considero que las escenas están muy bien escogidas, que es de lectura muy sencilla. Además, al final acaba con una serie de biografías concisas e interesantes sobre los personajes con los que se cruza Kiki de Montparnasse. Con ganas de leer los otros de la colección.
    La lectura es sencilla, con un inglés bastante asumible. La versión francesa también es apta para los que tengan una base, incluso útil para mejorar el idioma.

    Not being a fan of graphic novels, it came as a shock to find what was simply billed as a 'biography' was in effect one. But it is beautifully executed, and an excellent way of conveying the rip-roaring trajectory of this harum-scarum character across the Parisian art scene. Learning her language by having the Franco-Belgian original alongside could be a real treat - as sent to my friend via Amazon.fr... !

    A beautifully done tribute to a Persian icon and muse to artists and poets that remain unsung far too long.

    From a country child to the queen of Montparnasse, from her height as a singer and vaudeville act to her late living in the shadow of obscurity.

    She lived with no regrets and had the stories and songs to prove it.
